an ode to early summer

the heat of summer clambers round us like children,
hugging out necks
and ankles,
giggling -

the days move to a beating rhythm
of cicadas
the nights begin to sprawl....

my husband and I often sigh
and say how we love summer dusk
there is nothing quite like it

a soft release,
and pause

from the heat
and the bright

so we can bare our shoulders
and not fear of burning -

just stand
or sit
or lie against the earth

and feel a gentle breeze.

  1. This is lovely... :)

it makes me long for summer a little...

  2. Oh so true, what would we do without that cooling sunset? Its a gift at the end of the day!
Sending you love from the not so distant, friend.
